Overview

After researching, we were unable to locate the building code adoption ordinance.

All Electrical Permits issued After August 1st 2023 will be inspected for compliance to the 2023 NEC.

Summit County, CO adopts the following codes:

  • The International Building Code, 2018 edition, including Appendix Chapters C and J.
  • The International Residential Code, 2018 edition, including Appendices F, K, and Q.
  • The International Existing Building Code, 2018 edition.
  • The Uniform Code for Building Conservation, 1997 edition, including Appendix Chapter 3.
  • The Uniform Code for the Abatement of Dangerous Buildings, 1997 edition.

Residential Building Code

Summit County adopted the 2018 IRC, locally. Note that adoptions usually come with amendments. So, it is important to review those amendments in addition to the unamended model code.

Existing Buildings

Existing buildings, meaning buildings that were built in accordance to code at the time of construction, typically merit extra consideration in a current updated code.

Summit County, CO adopts the Uniform Code for Building Conservation, 1997 edition, including Appendix Chapter 3. Summit County, CO Resolution No. 2019-044 Exhibit A § 2 (adopted) with amendments at Exhibit A § 3.

There is no mention of the adoption of Appendix J of the 2018 IRC.

Commercial Building Code

Summit County adopted the 2018 IBC, locally. Note that adoptions usually come with amendments. So, it is important to review those amendments in addition to the unamended model code.
